Speaking at The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence on March 4, 2025, FM Sitharaman emphasized that since the launch of GST in 2017, the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR) has dropped from 15.3% to 11.4% as of 2023. Acknowledging the challenges faced by businesses due to frequent GST rule changes, she assured that the government is working to restructure the existing GST slabs and make the taxation system simpler, more predictable, and business-friendly. The Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST Rationalization has made significant progress in reviewing the existing slabs, and the final roadmap for GST reforms will soon be presented to the GST Council for approval. The upcoming tax relief is expected to benefit MSMEs by lowering compliance burdens, reducing tax rates, and improving ease of doing business.
