Mumbai: SBI Chairman C S Setty highlighted how the government’s digital initiatives are formalizing the MSME and agriculture sectors, improving access to formal credit. Speaking at the 77th AGM of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), he noted that digitalization has transformed banking, enabling innovative lending models for small businesses.

Government’s Digital Push for MSMEs

Initiatives like e-invoicing, GST integration, and AI-driven credit assessments have improved MSME financing. UPI, the Account Aggregator (AA) framework, and digital credit platforms are helping banks reduce risks and speed up loan disbursements.

Strengthening MSME Financing

IBA Chief Executive Atul Kumar Goel and IBA Chairman M V Rao emphasized the need for better capital allocation and lower lending costs. Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju praised banks for their strong performance and urged them to focus on cost-efficient credit access for MSMEs.

With MSMEs contributing 30% to GDP, AI-based risk assessment, digital documentation, and government-backed loan guarantees will reshape their financing. As banks adopt digital lending, MSMEs can expect faster and more accessible credit.
