Telangana Govt Earmarks ₹600 Crore to Boost MSME Sector

The Telangana government has announced a ₹600 crore fund to be allocated over the next five years to support the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. This initiative, part of the Telangana MSME Policy-2024, aims to foster inclusive and sustainable growth for the MSME sector, which has demonstrated resilience and significant expansion since 2014.

The state’s MSME sector has seen steady formalization, with annual registrations on the TG-IPASS portal increasing by 11 to 15% annually. Additionally, average investments in MSMEs have risen from ₹1 crore in 2018 to ₹2.15 crore in 2022, reflecting a positive trend in the sector’s growth. The policy also highlights encouraging social and gender diversity among MSME owners in Telangana, setting it apart from other states.

The Telangana government’s MSME policy is designed to promote inclusive employment, equitable growth, and technology upgradation, particularly focusing on adopting Industry 4.0 technologies. The policy seeks to develop businesses that create opportunities for all, integrating technological advancements to drive growth across the MSME ecosystem.

To accelerate this growth, the government has identified six key areas of improvement:

The policy outlines 40 measures aimed at supporting MSMEs from the startup phase through to sales, including the establishment of MSME parks, private flatted factories, and best-in-class testing centres. Fiscal incentives are also set to be increased, particularly for SC/ST and women-owned MSMEs, and there will be a focus on improving access to credit, enhancing market access through e-commerce, and simplifying the ease of doing business.

A significant part of the policy involves the creation of an MSME wing to provide round-the-clock support, alongside the establishment of a high-level steering committee to monitor the policy’s implementation. This comprehensive approach is expected to provide end-to-end support for MSMEs, including technology transfer, workforce development, and local procurement incentives.

The government’s vision, backed by a ₹600 crore allocation, seeks to transform Telangana’s MSME sector into a dynamic, inclusive, and globally competitive industry in the years to come.
