Punjab CM Urges NITI Aayog for Industrial Incentives to Boost MSME Growth and Exports

Presenting a compelling vision for Punjab’s industrial growth, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has called on NITI Aayog to provide industrial incentives to the state’s industries, similar to those extended to neighboring hill states. Mann emphasized the need for such support, particularly because Punjab faces unique challenges as a border region.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the workshop, “MSME Exports as Drivers of Growth for Punjab,” Mann argued that Punjab deserves equal subsidies and incentives to promote industrial development. He noted that past policies favoring hill regions had limited Punjab’s industrial progress, but achieving parity in incentives would ensure more holistic growth.

“Punjab, being a border state, deserves an ease of business status similar to that of the hill regions,” Mann asserted. “This will promote comprehensive industrial development and provide our businesses the competitive edge they need.”

In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that the Punjab government is ready to arrange exclusive train services for local entrepreneurs to transport goods. He explained that this initiative would allow manufacturers to economically ship their products to key destinations like Kandla port, thereby improving profitability and easing logistics for exporters.

Mann highlighted the importance of boosting trade and commerce within the state, with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) playing a central role in Punjab’s economy. He stressed the need for strong collaboration between the government and the private sector, urging industry leaders to take advantage of the state’s new initiatives to enhance their global competitiveness.

“MSMEs are crucial for the economic growth of Punjab, contributing significantly to GDP, GVA, exports, and job creation,” Mann remarked. “These enterprises embody the entrepreneurial spirit that powers India’s economy and have evolved into powerful engines of growth over time.”

Punjab, which is home to nearly 2 lakh MSMEs, plays a vital role in employment generation and industrial expansion. Mann invited business leaders to leverage government programs aimed at enhancing their competitiveness, thereby positioning Punjab as a significant player on the global industrial stage.

This call for enhanced incentives, combined with practical solutions like dedicated train services, underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to business growth and economic expansion.
