Scheme for Assistance to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME): Assistance for Patent Registration August 23, 2025 Rahul Singh Msme News 0 Gandhinagar, August 23 – The Government of Gujarat has consistently taken progressive steps to strengthen its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which plays a vital role in employment generation, state GDP, and exports. To further empower entrepreneurs and promote innovation, the Industries and Mines Department, Gujarat, launched the Scheme for Assistance to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), effective from August 7, 2020, to August 6, 2025. One of the significant components under this umbrella scheme is the “Assistance for Patent Registration”, designed to encourage research, product development, and intellectual property protection among MSMEs. Benefits of the Scheme The patent registration assistance provides financial support of up to 75% reimbursement of expenses, with a maximum ceiling of ₹25,00,000 per applicant or enterprise. To further ease the burden, attorney fee reimbursement is capped at ₹50,000 for domestic patents and ₹2,00,000 per country for international patents. The disbursement of financial aid is done in two stages: 50% after patent publication/notification. 50% after the grant of the patent certificate. However, it is important to note that expenses related to travel and accommodation are not covered under this scheme. Eligibility Criteria The scheme is open to individuals and legal entities involved in innovation or product/process development. To qualify: The patent must be registered within the scheme’s policy period. The application for assistance should be submitted within one year from the date of publication/notification of the patent. Application Process Applicants can apply online through the Investor Facilitation Portal (IFP). The process involves: Registration on the portal using email verification. Login and completion of the application form with required details. Uploading mandatory documents, including patent-related certificates, payment receipts, Udyam registration, PAN details, CA-certified expenditure statements, and other supporting documents. Supporting Innovation in Gujarat By reducing the financial burden of patent filing, this initiative motivates innovators, startups, and MSMEs to protect their intellectual property both domestically and internationally. It not only strengthens the competitiveness of Gujarat’s industries but also positions the state as a hub of innovation-driven growth. The Scheme for Assistance to MSMEs in Patent Registration reflects the government’s long-term vision of creating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, ensuring that Gujarat’s MSMEs remain globally competitive in today’s knowledge-based economy.
