A.P. Chambers and ICC Partner to Strengthen MSME Sector and Global Market Linkages October 15, 2024 MSME Sampark Msme News 0 The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (A.P. Chambers) and the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in boosting industrial growth in the state and the nation. The MoU was signed in the presence of former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha member Suresh Prabhu, who emphasized the importance of empowering the MSME sector for India to achieve a $5 trillion economy. During the event, Suresh Prabhu stressed that MSMEs should be developed at the district level, capitalizing on each district’s unique strengths such as natural and human resources. He also highlighted the need for creating global market linkages for local businesses, advocating for a dedicated fund to support the technological upgradation of MSMEs. Prabhu also pointed out the opportunity to attract manufacturing activities from China, positioning India to become a global innovation hub. ICC President Ameya Prabhu added that the chamber had expanded its global presence in the past year, opening offices in 25 countries. He emphasized the immense global interest in doing business with India but acknowledged challenges such as potential job losses due to artificial intelligence (AI) and the difficulty of job creation within the MSME sector. He expressed confidence that the partnership between A.P. Chambers and ICC could address these issues. ICC Director General Rajeev Singh shared that the ICC will celebrate its 100th anniversary this December and highlighted the chamber’s presence in 11 states and 25 countries. Singh expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with A.P. Chambers to advocate for industry policies and organize events beneficial for businesses in the state. A.P. Chambers President Potluri Bhaskar Rao reiterated the importance of the MSME sector as the backbone of India’s economy. However, he pointed out several challenges faced by MSMEs, including the effects of the pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, high production costs, expensive finance, poor market linkages, and delayed payments. Rao also mentioned that MSME exports have been declining, and many small businesses have shut down in the past five years due to these issues. He further criticized the effectiveness of government schemes intended to support MSMEs and called for a more efficient approach. The collaboration between A.P. Chambers and ICC is expected to pave the way for addressing MSME challenges and strengthening the link between local industries and global markets.
