Lok Sabha Passes MSME Payment Delay Bill Amid Opposition Protests August 14, 2026 Unnati Jain Msme News 0 Lok Sabha has passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development amendment Bill, 2026, which intends to improve payment systems for MSMEs in India. The law was unanimously approved by parliamentarians on Friday despite opposition from various parties. Previously, the bill was passed in Rajya Sabha on August 3. This amendment is meant to address the problem that exists in the Indian economy and hinders development of micro, small and medium enterprises, delayed payments. Payments are an essential thing for any enterprise since timely payments ensure adequate financial management to facilitate wage payment, purchasing of raw material, etc. One of the main clauses in the proposed act is the inclusion of timelines for resolving issues that arise from payment. The bill aims to reduce the period required to resolve such disputes and thus increase financial stability. Furthermore, the court can rule on the partial payment to the supplier of the product while still sorting out the dispute. This means that it will be possible for the MSMEs to benefit through immediate payments rather than having to wait for the resolution of all disputes. The MSMEs are highly relevant in the Indian economy in terms of job creation, manufacturing, export, and entrepreneurship. Despite all that, the issue of late payments has been a major challenge facing this industry especially among the smaller businesses due to limited finances. The adoption of the amendment is a great milestone in ensuring that conditions are improved for MSMEs. Through the introduction of faster payments and disputes resolution, the government is set to enhance the financial status of the small enterprises. It will now be essential for the implementation of the amendments to see how effective they are in the MSME sector.
