MSME Meet for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar to Boost Investments in Dooars

The state government is set to host Synergy, an MSME (micro, small, and medium enterprises) conclave aimed at fostering industrial investment in the Dooars region. Scheduled for December 4, 2024, the event will take place in Batabari, near the Gorumara National Park, focusing on Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts.

“Preparations are underway for the conclave,” stated Shama Parveen, District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri, during a briefing on Wednesday.

The state has been holding such district-level Synergy meetings for several years to stimulate investment across various sectors. These events bring together officials from different government departments to engage with entrepreneurs and resolve any issues they present.

Key topics for the upcoming discussions include opportunities for investment in tea production, tourism, horticulture, and other potential growth areas within the two districts. Government officials will also be available to address concerns raised by local businesses and work towards practical solutions.

The business community has expressed optimism about the initiative. Kishor Marodia, General Secretary of the North Bengal National Chambers of Commerce and Industries, pointed out an ongoing challenge: “Obtaining the Land Use Compatibility Certificate (LUCC) is essential for construction. While the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority now handles the issuance, we have faced delays, which need urgent attention.”

In addition, Bijoygopal Chakraborty, President of the Confederation of Indian Small Tea Growers’ Associations, recommended that the government explore the development of homestays in small tea plantations to create rural employment opportunities.
