The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has welcomed the announcement of a new ministerial-level mechanism to monitor Trade, Commerce, and Investment between the two nations. During his visit to Brasília, PM Modi met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Alvorada Palace, following the conclusion of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The leaders held extensive discussions on deepening bilateral relations, particularly focusing on economic cooperation. Key Agreements Signed: A total of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during the visit: Cooperation in Combating International Terrorism and Transnational Organised Crime Digital Transformation Collaboration – Sharing large-scale digital solutions Cooperation in Renewable Energy Agricultural Research – Between EMBRAPA (Brazil) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information Intellectual Property Cooperation – Between India’s DPIIT and Brazil’s MDIC Strengthening Economic Engagement Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about the future of India–Brazil trade relations, stating on social media: “Held fruitful talks with President Lula… Our talks included ways to deepen trade ties and diversify bilateral trade. We both agree that there is immense scope for such linkages to thrive in the coming times.” FIEO President S. C. Ralhan described the visit as a landmark moment, calling it pivotal for enhancing India–Brazil ties, especially in trade and strategic sectors. He emphasized that the new ministerial mechanism will help address policy and operational challenges in a focused manner. With over 30,000 direct members and a broader base of 200,000 exporters, FIEO issues certificates of origin, registers export firms, and manages the official Indian Trade Portal. The organization has also signed over 100 MoUs with international trade bodies, supporting Indian exporters across various goods and services sectors.
