India’s Green Manufacturing Drive Accelerates as ZED Certification Crosses 3.3 Lakh MSMEs July 16, 2025 Rahul Singh Msme News 0 New Delhi | 16th July 2025 — In a significant milestone for India’s push toward sustainable and quality-driven manufacturing, more than 3.3 lakh micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have been certified under the ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) Certification scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of MSME. The ZED scheme promotes energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmentally responsible production among Indian enterprises. As per the latest data, 3,29,595 MSMEs have received ZED Bronze certification, indicating strong grassroots participation in the programme. In addition, 2,349 MSMEs have earned Gold certification, and 1,683 have been awarded Silver, reflecting a growing commitment among enterprises to improve their operational quality and reduce their environmental footprint. The ZED initiative is open to all Udyam-registered MSMEs and is designed to encourage them to adopt globally recognized quality standards. Certification under the ZED framework not only enhances competitiveness but also opens access to financial incentives, subsidies, priority procurement, and green financing options through partner institutions and banks. Part of the larger effort to align Indian manufacturing with global climate and sustainability goals, the ZED scheme also supports MSMEs in obtaining ISO standards, implementing cleaner technologies, and reducing industrial waste. It contributes directly to India’s larger sustainability targets, including the Net Zero 2070 commitment, and strengthens India’s manufacturing supply chains through improved product quality and environmental performance. With ongoing support from the Ministry of MSME, state governments, and industry bodies, the ZED scheme is fast becoming a cornerstone of India’s green industrial strategy. MSMEs are encouraged to register via the ZED portal after completing their Udyam registration, and avail handholding support for certification, audits, and process improvements.Disclaimer: This summary is for informational purposes and readers should verify specific details through official reports or consult industry professionals for comprehensive insights.
