Khadi & Village Industries Yojna (KVIC):Rural India with Tradition and Enterprise July 30, 2025 Rahul Singh Msme News 0 The Khadi & Village Industries Yojna (KVIC) is a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), aimed at empowering rural India through self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Established in 1956, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) promotes traditional industries by providing financial assistance, training, raw materials, and marketing support to artisans, weavers, and micro-entrepreneurs across India. This scheme focuses on encouraging the production of khadi fabric and various village-based products such as pottery, leather goods, soaps, honey, handmade paper, bamboo crafts, and more. By supporting these activities, KVIC not only revives India’s indigenous industries but also creates large-scale employment in rural and semi-urban areas, especially for women and marginal communities. The scheme plays a crucial role in reducing migration to urban areas by creating income-generating opportunities locally. One of the unique features of the Khadi Yojna is its contribution to environmentally friendly and eco-conscious production. Khadi, being a hand-spun, hand-woven fabric, requires minimal energy and leaves a small carbon footprint. This aligns perfectly with the global push for sustainable and ethical fashion. Moreover, KVIC also helps artisans showcase their products at national and international platforms, enhancing market access and brand visibility. Under campaigns like “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, Khadi has gained renewed attention, becoming a symbol of self-reliance and pride. In today’s economy, the Khadi & Village Industries Yojna is not just a tool for economic development but a movement to revive India’s grassroots industries. By participating in this scheme, individuals can build meaningful livelihoods, preserve traditional crafts, and contribute to a stronger, self-reliant rural India.
