PM KUSUM Scheme

New Delhi, July 21, 2025 — In a major push towards clean energy and sustainable agriculture, the Government of India continues to expand the PM Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. Launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), this initiative is transforming India’s farmlands into self-reliant, solar-powered zones.

Accessible through the myScheme portal, PM-KUSUM supports farmers in installing solar-powered irrigation pumps and grid-connected renewable systems, helping them reduce diesel dependency, cut electricity costs, and even earn income by selling excess solar power back to the grid.

What is the PM KUSUM Scheme?

The PM-KUSUM Scheme promotes the use of solar energy in agriculture by providing financial assistance for the installation of:

  • Standalone solar irrigation pumps

  • Grid-connected solar power plants

  • Solarisation of existing electric pumps

It not only reduces carbon emissions but also offers energy independence to farmers while enhancing their income through clean energy generation.

Key Benefits

  • Subsidy Support: Farmers receive up to 90% subsidy on solar pump installation costs

  • Bank Loan Facility: 30% of the cost can be financed through bank credit

  • Farmer Contribution: Only 10% contribution from the farmer

  • Income Generation: Surplus solar power can be sold to the grid, generating extra revenue
