MSMEs Need to Adopt Technology and Focus on Skill Development: Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi April 18, 2025 Rahul Singh Msme News 0 Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, has reiterated the pivotal role of the MSME sector in addressing unemployment and powering India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation. Speaking at the ‘PM Vishwakarma – National SC-ST Hub Conclave’ in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, the Hon’ble Minister emphasized the need to prioritize MSMEs, calling them a cornerstone of economic inclusion. “Big industries might give employment to 25% of the workforce, but the remaining 75% depend on the MSME sector,” said Shri Manjhi. “This sector supports the poor, the less educated, and even the illiterate, offering them opportunities for dignity and income.” He also expressed deep gratitude to President Draupadi Murmu for her guidance and the opportunity to visit Odisha—her home state—for promoting MSME development. Reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India as a developed country, Shri Manjhi voiced confidence that by 2027–28, India will rise to become the world’s third-largest economy, with MSMEs as a key driving force. Driving Transformation Through Technology and Skilling During his visit to Odisha, Shri Manjhi also visited the Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC) in Bhubaneswar—a premier facility under the Ministry of MSME. There, he interacted with engineers and staff, urging the integration of emerging technologies like automation, AI, and robotics into India’s industrial training systems. “To ensure global competitiveness and productivity, our MSMEs must embrace advanced technology. That’s the path to a developed India,” he noted. CTTC serves as a vital institution, equipping MSMEs with high-end skills and fostering innovation-driven enterprise development. Strengthening Odisha’s Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Base The Minister further toured the Common Facility Centre (CFC) at Mancheswar Industrial Estate, established under the MSE-CDP scheme with state government support. Managed by the Utkal Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (UPMA) as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), the CFC provides essential services to MSMEs, including: Advanced testing and quality control, Research & regulatory compliance support and Specialized training for skill enhancement. Shri Manjhi appreciated the UPMA’s efforts in developing a robust pharmaceutical hub and acknowledged the CFC’s contribution to strengthening the industrial backbone of the region.
