Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) July 29, 2025 Rahul Singh Msme News 0 The Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) is a government scheme that helps small business owners get loans without giving any security or collateral. It was started by the Ministry of MSME and SIDBI to make it easier for new and existing small businesses to access bank loans. Many entrepreneurs, especially those who are just starting out, face difficulties because they don’t have property or assets to offer as security. That’s where CGTMSE helps—by giving a guarantee to the banks on behalf of the borrower. In April 2025, the CGTMSE scheme was updated to make it more flexible and inclusive. Now, businesses can get guarantee coverage for loans up to ₹10 crore. The scheme covers both term loans (for buying machinery, setting up units, etc.) and working capital loans (for day-to-day business expenses). A big improvement is the introduction of a hybrid model, which means even if a part of your loan is backed by collateral, the remaining part without security can still be guaranteed by CGTMSE. The scheme gives higher guarantee coverage (up to 90%) to certain groups like women entrepreneurs, SC/ST owners, businesses in the North-East, hill states, aspirational districts, and those with ZED certification. Also, if your business is in a district where loans are usually not given easily (as identified by RBI), you get an extra 5% benefit. This ensures that people from backward and remote areas are not left behind. Banks and financial institutions apply for this guarantee on behalf of the borrower, and the process has now become faster with online applications and AI-based systems to reduce paperwork and improve approval speed. The guarantee lasts for the entire loan period and can also be renewed if needed. This scheme is a game-changer for small business owners who have the talent and ideas but lack financial backing. By removing the fear of collateral, it encourages banks to give loans more freely and helps more entrepreneurs succeed. Over 1 crore MSMEs have already benefited from CGTMSE, and with new updates like reduced fees, mobile app launch, and simplified processes, it’s becoming even more helpful. If you’re planning to start or expand your business, CGTMSE is a golden opportunity you shouldn’t miss.
