The scheme, to be implemented over six years starting FY 2025-26, will focus exclusively on agriculture and allied sectors across 100 identified districts, drawing inspiration from NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Programme. This flagship initiative targets districts with low productivity, poor cropping intensity, and limited credit access. Selection will be based on net cropped area and operational holdings, ensuring balanced representation, with at least one district from every State/UT. The program aims to: Boost agricultural productivity Encourage crop diversification and sustainable practices Improve irrigation and post-harvest storage facilities at the panchayat and block levels Facilitate credit access (short- and long-term) Promote natural and organic farming Implementation will occur through the convergence of 36 central schemes, involving 11 different Ministries/Departments, with collaboration from state governments and private partners. A District Agriculture and Allied Activities Plan will be developed by the District Dhan-Dhaanya Samiti, which includes progressive farmers. The program’s success will be tracked using 117 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on a real-time dashboard. NITI Aayog will monitor progress and offer planning support, while Central Nodal Officers will review implementation at the grassroots level. With a strong focus on self-reliance, productivity, and local employment generation, the scheme is expected to enhance India’s agricultural output and promote Atmanirbhar Bharat. As the 100 districts improve, national agriculture indicators are also expected to rise significantly.
