National MSME Survey Aims to Unlock Growth and Global Competitiveness October 9, 2025 MSME Sampark Msme News 0 New Delhi, October 2025: In a landmark move to strengthen the backbone of India’s economy, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has announced a Pan-India survey aimed at understanding the real challenges faced by micro and small enterprises across the country. The initiative seeks to capture ground-level insights that will help policymakers design targeted strategies to make India’s MSMEs more cost-efficient, innovative, and globally competitive. Understanding MSME Realities The nationwide exercise will cover a wide range of industries and geographies—urban clusters, rural enterprises, and emerging manufacturing hubs. The Ministry plans to collect comprehensive data on credit access, technology adoption, skill development, market linkages, and regulatory bottlenecks. A senior official from the Ministry emphasized that the survey is part of a larger effort to ensure data-driven policymaking. “This survey will provide an authentic reflection of what MSMEs truly need. The insights will help us craft policies that are more responsive, inclusive, and aligned with the aspirations of small entrepreneurs,” the official said. Driving Competitiveness Through Data The findings from this Pan-India survey are expected to form the foundation for a new MSME Competitiveness Index, which will be released annually. The index will benchmark the performance of different regions and sectors, encouraging states to create more MSME-friendly environments. Experts believe that such a move can significantly improve the ease of doing business for MSMEs, helping them scale up, integrate into global value chains, and adopt new-age technologies such as AI, digital finance, and green manufacturing. Empowering the Growth Engine of India India’s MSME sector employs over 11 crore people and contributes nearly 30% to the national GDP. Despite its vast potential, the sector continues to grapple with issues such as limited credit access, outdated infrastructure, and stiff global competition. By directly engaging with business owners, the survey aims to bring forth grassroots insights that can guide reforms in credit facilitation, digital transformation, and skill enhancement. As India aspires to become a $5 trillion economy, the government’s focus on strengthening MSMEs signals its commitment to building a resilient and competitive industrial base driven by innovation and entrepreneurship.
